Part of the Ultra High Frequency Follow-On constellation that formed the backbone of US Navy tactical communications in the 1990s and 2000s. UFO satellites provided UHF push-to-talk voice channels for ships, submarines, and aircraft — the military walkie-talkie network in space. UFO-4 has significantly exceeded its design life, continuing to provide supplemental UHF capacity decades after launch.
