A Telesat/Bell Canada direct-to-home satellite delivering the Bell ExpressVu service to Canadian homes. 'Nimiq' means 'that which unites' in Inuktitut — the language of Canada's Inuit people. The name reflects the satellite's mission of connecting Canadians from the Yukon to Newfoundland, including remote northern communities where it provides the only entertainment and news connection to the outside world. Bell's ExpressVu and Shaw Direct together reach millions of Canadian satellite households.
