A Telesat satellite at Canada's prime 107.3°W slot providing Ku-band broadcasting and C-band distribution. The Anik name stretches back to Canada's original Anik-A1 in 1972 — the world's first commercial domestic communications satellite, predating even the US domestic satellite program. Telesat pioneered the commercial communications satellite business, and the Anik series has continuously served Canada's vast geography and remote communities for over five decades.
