Part of Globalstar's second-generation constellation, one of 24 satellites launched between 2010 and 2013 to replace the company's failing original 1990s fleet, whose amplifiers had begun degrading years ahead of schedule. This satellite now contributes to a network carrying over 1.8 billion messages annually across more than 100 countries — voice calls, asset tracking data, and, since 2022, life-saving emergency texts from iPhones with no cellular signal.
