A major Arab world communications satellite, operated by the Arab Satellite Communications Organization since 1976 — one of the oldest satellite operators in the developing world. Arabsat-5A provides C and Ku-band services for direct-to-home television broadcasting, corporate networks, and government communications across 22 Arab nations. Arabsat's pan-Arab mandate — providing sovereign satellite capacity independent of Western commercial providers — remains as relevant today as when it was founded during the early satellite era.
