The first Space-Based Infrared System satellite — the most sensitive missile warning spacecraft ever built. SBIRS watches the entire Earth with infrared sensors powerful enough to detect the heat signature of a ballistic missile within seconds of launch, anywhere on the planet. It replaced the aging Defense Support Program satellites and provides the US with its first warning of any ICBM, SLBM, or theater ballistic missile launch in real time. The satellite that tells the President a nuclear attack has been launched.
