India's advanced geostationary weather satellite provides half-hourly imagery over the Indian Ocean, tracking the monsoon — arguably the most economically critical weather phenomenon on Earth. Its six-channel imager and atmospheric sounder combination was the India Meteorological Department's most powerful forecasting tool when launched.
