FY-3C added GPS radio occultation to China's polar weather fleet — using the bending of GPS signals through the atmosphere as a precise thermometer, measuring temperature profiles through clouds with extraordinary accuracy. It also carries China's first GNSS occultation instrument contributing data to global weather prediction models.
