Japan's ALOS-2 carries the world's most powerful spaceborne L-band SAR, detecting ground deformation down to 1 centimeter using interferometry. After every major earthquake in Japan or nearby, ALOS-2 immediately maps displacement to identify collapse risk zones — guiding rescue teams to the areas most likely to contain trapped survivors.
