Canada's contribution to the international BRITE nanosatellite constellation, built at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies. BRITE-Toronto stares at the most luminous stars in the sky — the brilliant blue supergiants and pulsating Cepheids — measuring the subtle light variations that reveal their internal structure. These massive stars live fast and die in supernova explosions that seed the cosmos with heavy elements; understanding their death throes requires watching them constantly from space.
