GSAT0216 (Galileo 20), part of the December 2017 quadruple Galileo launch, contributed to a constellation that had grown large enough by this stage to provide genuinely global — not just European — coverage, a milestone that took the program roughly six years from its first 2011 satellite to reach. European officials specifically cited the successful four-satellite Ariane 5 launches, including this one, as proof the Galileo program had recovered its credibility after the costly 2014 Fregat failure that stranded two earlier satellites in the wrong orbit entirely.
