AT&T's direct-to-home satellite, providing Ku-band capacity at 101°W for DirecTV's US service. T-16 was ordered while AT&T owned DirecTV before that business was partially spun off to private equity. It represents continued investment in the satellite television infrastructure even as streaming services pressured traditional pay television — a bet that satellite television would remain viable for rural and sports-oriented American households regardless of streaming's growth.
