Russia's third Elektro-L geostationary weather satellite with upgraded multispectral imaging for improved temporal resolution. Elektro-L 3 provides full-disk imagery every 10-15 minutes, feeding Russian weather forecast models and contributing data to the World Meteorological Organization's global exchange. Russia prioritizes the Elektro-L program to monitor Arctic weather systems affecting the Northern Sea Route — the increasingly important commercial shipping corridor through Russia's melting Arctic.
