GPS BIII-3 (PRN 23), part of GPS's most significant hardware redesign in decades — the generation built after Selective Availability was already permanently switched off in 2000, giving these satellites GPS III's L1C signal, broadcast on this satellite alongside the legacy L1, L2C, and L5 frequencies, was specifically engineered for interoperability with Europe's Galileo constellation — the first time GPS and a foreign navigation system were designed from the ground up to share a receiver chip rather than requiring separate hardware for each.
