The companion to BSAT-4A, completing Japan's high-definition broadcasting satellite pair. BSAT-4B provides redundancy and additional capacity for Japan's 4K and experimental 8K broadcasting — NHK has been conducting 8K (Super Hi-Vision) satellite broadcasts using BSAT capacity, transmitting the world's highest-resolution satellite television to viewers in Japan at 120 frames per second with 22.2-channel audio. Japan's public broadcaster treats 8K satellite broadcasting as a national technology showcase.
