China's second Fengyun-4 geostationary weather satellite, positioned at 112°E for optimal coverage of East and Southeast Asia. FY-4B carries upgraded instruments compared to its predecessor FY-4A, including a higher-resolution imager, a next-generation lightning mapper, and an improved solar X-ray imager for space weather monitoring. Together FY-4A and FY-4B provide China's first two-satellite geostationary weather constellation — enabling rapid-scan mode over severe weather while maintaining full-disk imaging simultaneously.
