NuSat-48, part of Satellogic's commercial Earth observation constellation, named after Henrietta Leavitt, the astronomer whose 1908 discovery of the relationship between a certain type of star's brightness and its pulsation period gave astronomers their first reliable way to measure distances across the universe — a tool still used today, though Leavitt herself was never even allowed to interpret her own data at the time due to the era's restrictions on women scientists. Satellogic names most of its satellites after historical women scientists — a deliberate, ongoing pattern across the entire fleet.
