Russia's ionospheric monitoring satellite measures electron density in the layer that reflects radio signals and enables over-the-horizon communications. Solar storms distort it, disrupting GPS, HF radio, and satellite links. Ionosfera-M provides measurements needed to forecast and mitigate disruptions to critical infrastructure from power grids to aviation.
