USA 485, a classified National Reconnaissance Office satellite launched in early 2025 as part of the agency's rapid pivot toward a 'proliferated architecture' of many small, resilient satellites rather than a handful of large, expensive ones. The NRO deployed nearly 100 such satellites across 2024 and 2025 alone. USA 485 orbits at a 43° inclination optimized for revisit coverage over mid-latitude Eurasia and the Middle East, one node in a constellation whose individual satellites' specific roles — imagery, signals intelligence, or communications relay — the NRO does not publicly disclose.
