One of the first CubeSats from the University of Tokyo, XI-IV established Japan's tradition of university satellite programs now spanning dozens of missions. At 1 kg, launched alongside CUTE-1, it proved students with a small budget could build a functional spacecraft. XI-IV's success inspired a generation of Japanese space engineers and directly influenced the global CubeSat movement.
