One of eight NASA CYGNSS satellites using a revolutionary approach to measure hurricane winds — instead of emitting radar, it listens for GPS signals bouncing off the ocean surface. Rougher seas scatter GPS differently, revealing wind speed even through the rain bands that made hurricane eyewalls invisible to all previous satellites. Eight microsatellites doing what billion-dollar instruments couldn't.
