The first Inmarsat-4 satellite — a massive 6-ton spacecraft that introduced broadband mobile satellite services via Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN). BGAN allows users anywhere on Earth to access internet at broadband speeds using a laptop-sized terminal — the technology that enabled journalists to file from war zones, scientists to transmit data from remote fieldwork, and disaster responders to establish communications within hours of a crisis anywhere in the world.
