Laos's first national satellite — a milestone for one of Southeast Asia's smallest and landlocked nations. LaoSat-1 was built by China and represents an extension of Chinese telecommunications infrastructure development into Southeast Asian nations through commercial and diplomatic channels. It provides C and Ku-band direct-to-home broadcasting and VSAT communications across Laos, and potentially neighboring countries, filling connectivity gaps in a country where mountainous terrain makes terrestrial infrastructure expensive to deploy.
