A supplementary BeiDou-2 IGSO satellite added to increase constellation robustness. As BeiDou has gained government-mandated adoption in Chinese military systems, civilian aviation, maritime navigation, and smart city infrastructure, the need for high availability and redundancy has grown — each additional IGSO satellite reduces the risk of service gaps during satellite maintenance periods.
