The first geostationary satellite of the global BeiDou-3 navigation system — China's complete answer to GPS with worldwide coverage. BeiDou-3 GEO satellites extend the Short Message Service to a global audience and provide high-power navigation signals over the Asia-Pacific. China declared BeiDou-3 fully operational in 2020, achieving independence from GPS for Chinese military navigation globally — one of the most strategically significant space capabilities China has ever developed.
