Russia's second Meteor-M No.2 satellite fills polar weather coverage gaps over Siberia and the Arctic. It provides imagery sharp enough to spot sea ice leads — narrow channels of open water that are navigation lifelines for Arctic shipping as Russia develops the Northern Sea Route.
