An SES C-band satellite at 101°W providing US cable distribution capacity as part of the C-band 5G clearing transition. Like SES-18 and SES-19, SES-20 was funded by FCC relocation payments to replace legacy satellites operating in the lower C-band. Together the new SES C-band satellites ensure that US cable television — which depends on C-band satellite distribution for national programming delivery — continues without disruption as 5G networks expand into formerly satellite-occupied frequencies.
