Angola's second attempt at a national communications satellite — the first, AngoSat-1, suffered a power system failure and was lost in 2018. AngoSat-2, built with Russian cooperation, provides C and Ku-band communications services across Angola and the broader African continent. Angola's persistence in pursuing satellite capability despite the AngoSat-1 failure reflects the continent's acute need for satellite connectivity — terrestrial infrastructure serving vast sub-Saharan African territories remains chronically insufficient.
