Jilin-1 Kuanfu-02B 3 is the third of six wide-swath Earth observation satellites launched together September 20, 2024 aboard a Long March 2D from Taiyuan, joining China's rapidly expanding Jilin-1 commercial remote-sensing constellation operated by Chang Guang Satellite Technology. The 'Kuanfu' wide-field design favors imaging a larger area per pass at the expense of the finest possible resolution, a tradeoff well suited to monitoring crops, land change, and disaster zones across broad regions rather than picking out individual small objects. Chang Guang has built Jilin-1 into one of the largest commercial satellite imaging fleets anywhere, with a launch tempo aimed at eventually revisiting most of the globe multiple times a day.
