The second WGS satellite, doubling US military broadband capacity in space. WGS-2 demonstrated that demand for military bandwidth would grow exponentially — each new satellite was met with instant saturation as commanders found new uses for the data capacity. Drone operations in Afghanistan and Iraq consumed bandwidth that would have seemed unimaginable to military planners a decade earlier.
