GPS BIIF-1 (PRN 25), launched May 2010, was the first satellite of the GPS Block IIF generation — the version that added the L5 signal, a dedicated aviation frequency specifically engineered for 'safety-of-life' applications like aircraft landing guidance, where accuracy and signal integrity genuinely matter to whether a plane lands safely. L5 operates in an internationally protected aviation spectrum band, shielded by regulation from the kind of interference that could affect other GPS frequencies.
