GPS BIIF-10 (PRN 08), launched in 2016, continues the Block IIF generation's final rollout phase, replacing older constellation members as the US Space Force prepared to begin transitioning to the fully redesigned Block III satellites — GPS's most significant hardware overhaul since the system's original 1970s design. Each Block IIF satellite that came online retired an older spacecraft that, in several cases, had already served two or three times longer than its original design life — some 1990s-era GPS satellites kept broadcasting reliably for over 20 years before finally being decommissioned.
