GPS BIIF-3 (PRN 24), launched in 2012, carries the L5 aviation signal that Block IIF introduced to the GPS constellation. L5's higher power and wider bandwidth make it more resistant to multipath interference — the signal-bouncing effect that occurs in urban canyons or near large structures, where a satellite signal reflects off buildings before reaching a receiver and can throw off a position calculation by tens of meters if uncorrected.
