The first BeiDou-2 Inclined Geosynchronous Orbit satellite — a unique orbital slot that combines GEO altitude with a ground track that oscillates north-south over Asia rather than remaining fixed over the equator. This inclined orbit provides stronger signal elevation angles over high-latitude regions of China including Beijing and northeastern China, where GPS signals from equatorial GEO satellites appear at shallow angles that can be blocked by buildings and terrain.
