Part of BeiDou-2's inclined geosynchronous orbit component. IGSO satellites were a Chinese innovation in navigation constellation design — the combination of GEO, IGSO, and MEO satellites gives BeiDou higher signal strength over Asia than any other navigation system, making it particularly effective in dense urban canyons where signals from lower-elevation satellites are frequently blocked.
