The third Chuangxin technology demonstration satellite, launched in 2011 to continue validating small-satellite bus technologies and data relay capabilities for the Chinese Academy of Sciences. By this point the Chuangxin program had shifted from purely experimental status toward informing the design choices behind larger operational Chinese satellite constellations — a common pattern in Chinese space development where small, low-risk missions validate technology before it's scaled into major programs.
