Nigeria's communications satellite — Africa's most populous nation's connection to sovereign satellite capacity. NigComSat-1R provides C, Ku, Ka, and L-band services for Nigerian government networks, direct-to-home TV distribution, broadband internet, and mobile satellite services. Nigeria's original NigComSat-1 failed in 2008, and this replacement satellite marked Nigeria's second attempt to establish indigenous satellite capability — critical for a nation of 200 million people in a region where commercial satellite capacity is chronically underserved.
