The sixth BeiDou-2 geostationary satellite. China's BeiDou-2 system achieved full regional coverage of the Asia-Pacific in 2012 — providing GPS-equivalent navigation to Chinese military forces and civilian users without dependence on US GPS infrastructure. China's decision to build BeiDou was explicitly motivated by concerns that the US might deny GPS to China during a conflict.
