China's geostationary weather satellite over the Indian Ocean serves as the primary weather data source for 13 neighboring countries lacking their own geostationary capacity. From its position it monitors weather systems breeding the cyclones that threaten India's coasts — and shares data with the World Meteorological Organization, making China a de facto weather data provider for much of Asia.
