Third of the original six Yunhai-2 satellites, part of China's constellation-based approach to atmospheric radio occultation sensing. Where a single occultation satellite might sample a few hundred atmospheric profiles per day, six satellites working together dramatically increase the sampling density — improving the timeliness and coverage of the temperature and humidity data feeding both weather models and, per Western assessment, PLA operational planning.
