The first satellite in Jilin-1's Kuanfu ('Wideband') sub-series, launched January 2020 with a distinctive design philosophy: rather than maximizing resolution, Kuanfu satellites prioritize wide field-of-view coverage — a telephoto-range imager delivering better-than-4-meter multispectral resolution across a swath greater than 85 miles, dramatically wider than the narrow high-resolution Gaofen-03D satellites. This trade-off makes Kuanfu satellites ideal for rapid wide-area monitoring — disaster assessment, agricultural surveys, or tracking large-scale change — where covering more ground matters more than reading individual license plates.
