Yaogan-33 (04), the newest satellite in China's modernized Jianbing-5 successor SAR class as of its launch. The program's radar imaging capability was originally funded entirely by the PLA specifically to see through the weather that blinds optical reconnaissance over China's cloud-prone southern border regions — terrain where visual intelligence gathering has always been unreliable.
