Lead satellite of the fifth Yaogan-39 triplet, part of a newer Chinese reconnaissance family operating in the same 35°-inclined orbital regime long used by the Yaogan-30 naval ELINT program. As with the parallel Yaogan-35 and Yaogan-36 families, Yaogan-39 groups are assessed to extend China's naval surveillance and reconnaissance architecture with updated sensor technology beyond what the aging Yaogan-30 constellation was originally designed to provide.
