Thuraya's second operational satellite, extending mobile phone coverage to Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and Europe. Thuraya-3 expanded the service to support more simultaneous users and additional handset designs, making satellite phones more affordable and practical for field use. Its coverage of the Asia-Pacific added maritime connectivity for fishing fleets and coastal communities across Indonesia, the Philippines, and Pacific island nations where terrestrial connectivity remains sparse.
