An SES satellite (formerly New Skies Satellites) at 183°E providing C-band communications across the Pacific. NSS-9 serves the Pacific Ocean's island communities and maritime routes with the wide-area C-band coverage that reaches smaller, cheaper ground terminals — important in Pacific island markets where sophisticated Ku-band equipment is cost-prohibitive for local broadcasters and telecommunications operators.
