Indonesia's latest geostationary communications satellite, the fifth in the Nusantara ('Archipelago') series. Indonesia's systematic investment in domestic geostationary satellite capacity reflects the government's recognition that for a country of 17,000 islands, satellite is as fundamental to national infrastructure as roads or ports. Each new Nusantara satellite extends the reach of digital services — broadband, government platforms, banking — to the island communities that terrestrial networks will reach last.
