The first satellite in Mexico's MEXSAT national communications system, providing L-band mobile satellite services across Mexico and Central America. Despite being part of a national government program, MEXSAT-3 primarily serves civil communications — connecting remote communities in Mexico's mountains and jungles that have no terrestrial connectivity. The satellite is also available for government emergency communications during hurricanes and earthquakes.
