A Eutelsat satellite at 9°E providing Ku-band broadcasting for Central and Eastern European markets alongside Ka-band broadband via the EDRS-B hosted payload. Eutelsat-9B hosts ESA's European Data Relay Satellite B laser communications terminal — one of the nodes in Europe's space data relay network that transfers data from Earth observation satellites via optical laser link. The combination of commercial Ku-band broadcasting and an ESA laser terminal on one spacecraft is a novel cost-sharing arrangement.
