The fifth AEHF satellite, launched on the first national security mission for a SpaceX Falcon 9 — a milestone marking the end of United Launch Alliance's monopoly on US military satellite launches. AEHF-5 provides additional coverage and capacity, particularly for users in high latitudes including Alaska and the Arctic, where military activity has increased as ice retreat opens new strategic domains.
