Yaogan-33 (02), launched in 2022 as part of a modernized successor class to China's original Jianbing-5 synthetic aperture radar reconnaissance satellites. The first Yaogan-33 actually failed to reach orbit in a May 2019 launch failure; this satellite represents the program's continued replacement effort, flying in the same orbital regime as the classic JB-5 SAR satellites but with an updated design visible in released illustrations.
